Welcome to our how to play roulette for dummies guide. This will give you an awesome headstart to your casino gaming journey. It’s never been easier to know how to win at roulette!
Roulette is yet another casino game that’s largely dependent on chance. But our online roulette guide has found that there are certain bets you can try to get a much better chance of winning. So take a look below at our how to play roulette for dummies guide to make your casino vacation a lasting success!
Our roulette how to play for beginners guide first has to explain that this is purely a game of chance. Once the roulette ball is in motion, there is nothing that you can do to affect the outcome of the game.
Instead you’ll have to begin by betting on which pocket or pockets the roulette ball will land in. If you predict correctly, you’ll win your bet and will get a profit as well as your original wagering stake back. You’ll lose your betting stake if you predict wrongly.
The roulette wheel is set up in a way that ensures the results will be completely random. This is the same whether you’re playing roulette at a real-life casino or are playing an online casino game. As such, you’ll need to plan ahead to see what you need to do to keep the odds in your favour.
One of the first decisions you’ll need to make will be to decide which roulette game to play. Each online casino site will probably have well over a dozen different roulette games on offer. These could feature live casino roulette games where you play against a real-life dealer or single-player roulette games where there’s a simulation of roulette where the results would be generated by a random number generator.
All of this means that each round of roulette should start afresh to give completely random results. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve won or lost your previous 100 rounds of roulette, as you’ll be no more likely to win your next game.
Roulette comes in three forms – French, American and European Roulette. If you want to win more roulette games, you should avoid playing American roulette. This is because American roulette features two zeros compared to the single zero that is found in European and French roulette. The fact that American roulette has an extra pocket means that it is statistically harder to win this roulette variant compared to its French and European counterparts.
Just so you know, there is no difference between the French and European roulette wheel. The only difference to be aware of is the fact that you can use the ‘la partage’ and ‘en prison’ rule in French roulette, but not European roulette.
Playing roulette gives you the choice of what kind of bet to put down. Roulette bets fall into two camps – outside bets and inside bets. Of these, outside bets give you a much better chance of getting a winning result. Take a look at some of the most popular outside bets for roulette:
Red or black: Here you’re just betting on whether the ball will land in a red or black pocket.
Even or odd: This means betting on whether the number of the pocket that the ball lands in is either odd or even.
Low or high: These bets require you to predict whether the ball will land in a pocket that is ‘low’ (one to 18) or ‘high’ (19 to 36).
Dozen bet: This bet is slightly harder to win, but essentially you’re betting on which dozen of numbered pockets the ball will land in, such one to 12, 13 to 24 or 25 to 36.
There are further outside bets to consider like column bets and snake bets that are all safer than most inside bets. We should note the fact that if your ball lands on the green zero, then you’d lose your betting stake for most of these outside bets. However, some roulette games in the UK will see you losing only half of your stake if your ball lands on a zero.
The only downside to outside bets is the fact that you won’t get much of a return compared to inside bets. But with inside betting seeing you doing things like predicting which single pocket the ball will land in, we can see that it’s much easier to win outside roulette bets.
Lots of experienced roulette gamers will know all about the power of the En Prison rule. Here, your wagering stake would be put ‘in prison’ for the next round of play if the ball landed in the zero pocket when you were betting on odds or even, or red or black. It’s a great way to get chance to fight again for another win, although you’d lose your stake if you lost in the next round. Just remember that the En Prison rule can only be used if you are playing French roulette.
The way that roulette is set up means that you are far more likely to get more losses than wins. Even if you try the safest outside bet, the casino will still have the edge. As a result, it’s always a good idea to try and anticipate these losses by setting yourself a budget.
All experienced roulette gamers will know that a budget allows them to take the inevitable losses without it affecting their overall financial health. By budgeting carefully and wagering with sensible stakes, you’ll have the potential of racking up more frequent smaller wins that won’t necessarily get wiped out in one go by a massive loss.
Above all, it’s always best to know when to walk away when things aren’t going your way, and never to chase after any losses. But by only betting with small stakes, you’ll be able to survive any loss to fight another day, and have the potential to pick up more wins along the way.
Bonuses might not necessarily help you get more wins when you play roulette, but they can do everything from maximise those wins to minimise any losses. So take a look at how some of the following casino bonuses could work wonders with your roulette gaming:
These feature the casino site giving you extra wagering funds in direct correspondence to how much you deposit. You would then be able to use the bonus funds as stakes for your roulette gaming.
Some casino bonuses work in a different way to give you a refund equal to whatever losses you’ve made. Such deals offer an excellent way to get ‘cashback’ or bet credit for a roulette loss and then turn it around to get a win when playing this classic casino game.
We should note the fact that many online casinos will have single-player roulette games that you can play in demo mode. This means that you can practice wagering on roulette without having to put down any real money stakes.
Obviously you won’t be able to claim any real money winnings by doing so, but it’s still a good way to understand which bets to try and which to avoid. Plus we should note that such free play modes won’t be available whenever you play live casino roulette games. As such, you’ll need an extra bit of practice for when you finally take on the live dealer.
