    ToteSport Review and Promo Codes

The Tote, formerly the Horserace Totalisator Board was founded in 1928 and owned by the UK Government. It was sold to to Betfred in 2011 in a deal worth £265 million; with £155m of guaranteed investment in Horse Racing over seven years for exclusive control over the on-course betting system that expires in 2018.

The first racecourse Tote betting occurred on was in 2nd July 1929 at Newmarket and Carlisle Racecourses, where the Tote now operates a range of popular pool bets such as the Placepot, Quadpot, Exacta, Trifecta and Scoop 6. The Tote has formal pool links with similar organisations in Germany, France, Holland, Cyprus, Denmark, U.S.A, Canada and South Africa.

The ToteSport brand was born in 1972 with numerous betting shops launched nationwide, and most on-course shops also flying the ToteSport flag. Since 2011, the majority of these licensed bookmaking premises have been rebranded to carry the Betfred name, meaning that for many, the only place to directly access ToteSport is online.

Currently the ToteSport website/mobile platform is operated by Petfre (Gibraltar) Limited, a company trading as Betfred and Totesport and registered in Gibraltar. The firm is regulated by the UK Gambling Commission.

Since its origins, Horse Racing has always formed the basic core element of the Tote and the ToteSport business model. Given UK Government ownership for the bulk of it’s existence, the brand was always viewed as traditional and secure.

However with the burgeoning number of online bookmakers and offers, the Tote became rather stale and one-dimensional and was sold to Betfred in 2011. Seven years on from sale, times are changing once more and Betfred is about to lose its on-course exclusivity with pool betting at 54 UK racecourses soon to be operated by Colossus Bets.

As a result of this change, Betfred will also withdraw much of its sponsorship from UK Horse Racing, with owner Fred Done set to concentrate on further investment in his Chelmsford City Racecourse.

    ToteSport Overall

The ToteSport site is a pleasure to visit and users know they are punting with one of the most reputable and long-standing brands in the sector.

The company Tote, has undergone significant change since leaving UK Government ownership in 2011, under the tutelage of Fred Done (Betfred). Further change is imminent during 2018, with the Betfred brand about to be replaced by Colossus Bets at the majority of UK Racecourses.

Quite how this will impact upon the ToteSport brand remains to be seen. However, with on-course pool betting no longer the exclusive domain of Betfred, there’s potentially less of a requirement to retain the well-established Tote and ToteSport brands, so it’s entirely plausible that they’ll simply be amalgamated into the Betfred ‘family’.

The current online offering from ToteSport is of a high-standard, with precious little to dissuade new customers from signing up for an account. Whatever the future dictates, the Tote and Totesport have served UK and Irish Horse Racing proud since 1928.

    ToteSport User Interface

The ToteSport user interface can’t be faulted and is available on all of the usual web and mobile platforms through browsers such as Safari, or via designated Apple or Android Apps.

The site itself is rather basic in terms of the colours utilised with black and grey bars, populated by white and black fonts. However, the traditional lime green which has long been associated with the Tote is very cleverly interwoven for a splash of colour; maintaining the brand awareness of ToteSport throughout. ToteSport has its own unique and well-established identity, arguably more than any other betting company, and when betting online with ToteSport, this strong and consistent branding shines through on each and every page.

Traditional Tote customers are an older demographic and some users are perhaps not as au fait with digital technology but the website has been well designed to be simple to navigate and the menu structure is clear, with the all-important ‘Register’ or ‘Log-In’ options both featuring prominently on the top bar.

Registering for a new ToteSport account is also a straightforward four-step process in which all of the usual basic customer details are required.

Users can manipulate their individual settings to suit their own needs with odds available for display in Fractional, Decimal or American formats. Furthermore, users can change how the site is viewed; either Grid or the standard Carousel icon display. It is also possible to activate ‘Quick Bet’ or deactivate the default setting of automatically accepting a price change. Finally, ToteSport should be given immense credit for incorporating their Terms and Conditions (T/C) into the website via their own unique, easy to access page.

Betting Markets and Content at ToteSport

Horse Racing is integral to ToteSport, with punters currently able to bet directly into the Totepool through their online account, as well as viewing live results and Jackpot/Placepot/Quadpot in-running totals between races. Quite how this will change later in 2018 remains to be seen, with Colossus Bets presumably becoming the go-to website for access to such pool betting services.

The UK and Ireland Horse Racing pages are slightly cluttered with ‘Extra Markets’ offered alongside traditional racecards. However, the scope of International Racing covered by ToteSport is most impressive with fixtures in Australia, UAE, South Africa, France, Germany, USA, India and Chile all readily available, whilst fans of the Virtuals are also accommodated with Portman Park, Steepledowns and Sprint Valley.

ToteSport also covers a full range of others sports and events through its All Sports A-Z menu; catering for niche sports such as Gaelic Football, Hurling or Handball. However, separate sub-categories also exist for the following; Football, Games, Roulette, Next Off, Tennis, Golf, Cricket, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Snooker, Darts, Greyhounds, Motor Sports, Boxing and Promotions.

    Bonuses and Promos with ToteSport

If you seek Promotions, then ToteSport really deliver a with a full on ‘in your face offering’ each time you visit the website. Daily promotions include ‘Price Boosts’, ‘Second to the SP Favourite’, ‘Extra Place’ and ‘Double Delight/Hat-Trick Heaven’. The latter promotion giving double or treble the odds on selected first goalscorer markets should the player nominated score two or three goals during the match. New customers can take advantage of a ‘£25 Freebet’. Basically, if your first bet of up to £25 (at any odds) is a loser, it’ll be refunded as a matched Freebet; with a seven day expiry period. Regular customers are catered for with the ‘Totepool Cashback Club’ which offers a percentage of stakes back in cash every week for Totepool bets (£1-£499 = 3%, £500-£999 = 6%, £1000+ = 9%).

    ToteSport’s In-Play Markets

In-play markets are plentiful and are located within the ‘In-Play’ sub-menu. Very handily these markets are listed by individual sport, with the actual number of markets available (i.e. 16) clearly visible. This means that there’s no need to wade through random Football matches from Timbuktu if it’s Australian Open Tennis markets which you desire. For those interested in ‘Next Off’ markets, a separate sub-menu is provided.

    Stats & Form

Stats and form are generally limited to UK and Irish Horse Racing. Racecards don’t include coloured silks; only jockey bookings are listed which is a surprise and disappointment.

However, race-titles and grades (i.e. 0-60) are displayed for each race alongside those all-important each-way terms. Totesport helpfully provides Racing Post ‘Spotlight’ verdicts, whilst other information from selected RP tipsters (i.e. Lambourn, Topspeed) is there for perusal should it be required by the customer.

    Banking at ToteSport

Accounts are operated via the traditional Username/Password method, with documentation checks occasionally required in order to deposit funds. The minimum deposit is £5 and a customer can only bet up to the available amount within their account. ToteSport is available for customers in the UK, Ireland or Gibraltar. Accounts can be populated by VISA, Debit cards and E Wallets, with all customer funds held by Petfre in a segregated bank account (Barclays) which ring fences customer funds away from the day-to-day accounts that are used to run the business, in order to protect the customer against the unlikely risk of insolvency. There appear to be very few complaints from ToteSport customers regarding withdrawals on UK online forums such as ‘Trust Pilot’.

    Customer Satisfaction with ToteSport

ToteSport offers plenty of assistance to its customers with masses of FAQ’s listed on the webpages themselves. Failing this, support is also available via a freephone telephone number (08000 328 188) or via email: [email protected]. ToteSport also has a strong presence on social media, with its Twitter handle (@totesport) blue-tick verified and having almost 12,000 followers as at 28/03/2018. This Twitter account promotes responsible gambling and displays basic email and telephone contact details within its introductory ‘bio’.

    ToteSport’s Mobile App

ToteSport has a designated downloadable mobile app for both Apple and Android operating systems. These apps mirror the services available through traditional mobile web browsers such as Safari, so the choice is basically the customers to make.

    ToteSport Streaming and Content

Live Streaming is only available through parent company Betfred for wagering clients (£1 minimum bet) on horse racing. There is also an excellent racing commentary radio service also featuring greyhounds and football. However, there is no streaming of football or other sports.

The site would also benefit from stronger horse racing analysis especially as it is synonymous with the sport whilst previews, news and analysis – as provided by sister site Betfred’s blog – would help it to become more of a regular destination for punters.
