Despite being relatively new to the online betting market, TonyBet has become one of the fastest growing online sportsbooks and gaming companies in the world. It was originally named Onibet, an online gaming company that was founded in 2003 before being rebranded in 2009 by the famous poker player and businessman, Antanas Guoga, better known as Tony G.

With gaming licenses in the UK and Estonia, TonyBet deliver their services throughout Europe. This allows them to offer users the opportunity to place live bets on lottery, casino, poker and other games as well as sports betting.

In 2016, the company was bought for €6 million by the Swedish company Betsson, who have over 50 years of experience in the gambling industry, owning established betting brands such as Betsafe.

On the face of it, TonyBet are a sportsbook on the rise but they have experienced problems in the past.

In 2010, the company got into a spot of bother when they controversially became a sponsor of the Lithuania men’s national basketball team. The problem with this revolved around the issue that in Lithuania, gambling advertising is banned nationwide. In public relation terms, this isn’t the sort of thing that a betting site wants to be involved in, especially with breaching legalities.

Other betting sites have had much greater controversies, but for TonyBet, this particular incident has seen them become quite cautious in which teams they look to sponsor. Their current sponsorship deals aren’t anything special when compared to larger betting sites such as bet365, with TonyBet sponsoring basketball teams in Estonia and in motorsport, with the Juta Racing team of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB amongst their stable. When it comes to sponsorships, TonyBet aren’t pulling up any trees, but when it comes to poker, they are definitely a big player.

In December 2013, TonyBet launched its own online Open Face Chinese poker application, which enables its clients to play the game for real money. This was a huge development as the software offered punters cash games and multi-table tournaments, played in a number of different game variations including Pineapple and Progressive Fantasy.

It was a big success story for the company, as shown when they hosted the first-ever live Open Face Chinese Poker World Championship in 2014, as part of the Prague Poker Festival.

TonyBet have been adept at finding new initiatives to develop their products and if they can continue to do that, they will remain a key member of the online betting community.

Our Opinion

There is a lot to like about TonyBet, especially when it comes to their service covering casino, poker and gaming. After all, that was their main focus when they first started and it is something that they have been developing and improving ever since.

The range of games and relevant markets on offer is very impressive, with some really enticing promotions to enhance the overall experience. However, when it comes to their sportsbook, other betting sites are far superior.

There just isn’t enough to really grab your attention, both for pre-match events and in-play. The site works well enough, but it is purely functional. It lacks a wow factor, with limited content, no live streaming and markets which fail to offer the depth currently provided by others.

With that in mind, TonyBet have work to do if they are to mount a serious challenge to the likes of Betfair and Ladbrokes.

TonyBet User Interface

The TonyBet site is functional and pleasant on the eye, but does lack a wow factor.

In terms of design, all the key options are where you would expect, with feature sports and the latest in-play events dominating the centre of the page. As with most sportsbooks, users will find all the different types of sports markets available on the left-hand side of the page, whilst the options for casino, poker and gaming can be found at the top.

One slight drawback is the use of flash features, which TonyBet use to highlight promotions and the latest odds on major sporting events. The issue with this is that the flashes can cause the site to slow down from time to time, which isn’t great for those who bet in-play and require a smooth loading service.

On the other hand, a big plus for TonyBet is that their site runs with the latest SSL Web server certificates. This is good news for those who are security conscious when using betting sites, as it ensures that all the communications are absolutely safe as the sensitive information is always encrypted.

Betting Markets

With fierce competition increasing between betting sites, TonyBet offer a strong range of sports, poker, casino and games to bet on.

In terms of their sportsbook, they have a decent list that includes live and pre-match betting, as well as money lines on some of the biggest entertainment and political events such as the Eurovision Song Contest.

Key sports including football, cricket, rugby and tennis are covered, while more niche events such as E-Sports also have a decent range of markets to bet on.

However, there are some big absentees from their sports list, especially horse racing, which most punters would consider to be one of the staple sports to bet on. Despite that, their live casino and slot gaming services are a big positive, as they are provided by the biggest online casino developers in Microgaming and NET/ENT.

With this software at their disposal, TonyBet are able to offer a vast amount of different options to choose from with roulette, blackjack and even poker leagues to join.

Bonuses

One of the major plus points in signing up with TonyBet is their highly competitive welcome offer.

In creating an account with the site and placing a minimum deposit of £10, you will get a matched 50% bonus of up to £100, with a deposit of £200 required to receive the maximum bonus. Since this bonus is a matched one, punters can deposit smaller amounts and as a result, will receive a smaller bonus.

To withdraw your bonus, you need to place bets worth 12x the deposit amount at odds of 1.85 or more, and the bets have to be placed within 7 days from opening your account. This bonus is one of the strongest currently on offer on the market, and TonyBet don’t stop there with their offers. They offer an extensive range of promotions covering sports, casino, poker and gaming.

For instance, casino players can take advantage of weekend offers that involve winning 20 free spins on a particular video slot. In a market that is becoming increasingly crowded, TonyBet are worth considering for those who are on the lookout for tasty offers and bonuses.

Content (Live Streaming, Audio, Radio, Blogs, Previews)

As with most online sportsbooks, TonyBet offer additional content to inform and entertain their clientele.

They provide a blog feature on their site which includes articles covering sports, casino, poker and general betting. TonyBet also have a YouTube channel that is linked to their site, showing highlights from professional poker tournaments which is something slightly different to what other sportsbooks offer.

In comparison to blogs and previews from other sites, TonyBet’s blog focuses more on entertaining users than actually providing clear betting tips and strategies on particular events. For instance, the types of topics covered include the top ten most interesting winning bets and the strangest betting superstitions.

If in-depth betting previews are your thing, there are better alternatives out there.

Another flaw with TonyBet’s content is the lack of live streaming for sport events, which is a negative for the in-play betting experience that they provide to punters. Bettors now expect to be able to watch live sporting events as part of their membership to a site, and it is a feature that is being taken up by more and more sportsbooks.

Without it, in-play punters will go elsewhere to find it and this is perhaps something TonyBet will need to look at in order to keep up with the competition.

In-Play Betting

Larger sportsbooks such as William Hill or Coral may offer a greater depth and variety in their markets, but TonyBet still deliver a decent product for in-play betting.

All the markets that you would expect to see such as outrights, total points/goals and handicaps are all clearly displayed and easy to access. However, there isn’t much else to set it apart from anywhere else.

The whole in-play experience on offer is very much focused on functionality, and therefore it fails to create the buzz that other betting sites provide for this type of betting. When you look at the graphics deployed by TonyBet to show how an event is progressing, they look rather dull and vague, with just the scores and time on show.

There aren’t any live enhanced offers to keep customers involved, while the absence of live streaming is another drawback, as users want to be able to see what is happening so they can respond to the action. In comparison to other sportsbooks, TonyBet simply don’t offer the same level of markets and content that is now expected from in-play bettors.

Stats & Form

With online sports betting becoming bigger every year, sportsbooks are always looking for ways to grab the attention of potential punters.

The use of stats and form guides has been one the more successful features that online betting sites have used to do this, with the information provided by TonyBet definitely one of the strongest.

In-depth stats are delivered via a database on the site which covers feature sports such as football to more niche events like badminton. The level of detail and variety is very impressive, helping punters to shape their betting strategies. Stats such as how many times a team has covered a particular handicap mark are listed as well as the usual form lines that include goals/points scored.

Another nice touch from TonyBet is a stats tab that is attached to every sporting event, allowing customers to see relevant stats for individual matches and tournaments before placing a bet.

Banking

When it comes to deposits and withdrawals, the number of payment methods available with TonyBet is very impressive. All the popular electronic wallets and credit cards are accepted, as well as bank transfers.

Neteller and Skrill in particular work very well, as they take just a few hours for withdrawals and allow players to instantly deposit funds into their accounts. For those who prefer more conventional methods such as bank transfers, it takes a little longer for the money to reach them, but they are comparative to many in the sportsbook industry.

One other thing to note with TonyBet is that they use a closed loop policy. This essentially means that players need to withdraw funds to the same primary source they used to deposit.

Customer Satisfaction

On the whole, TonyBet have a positive reputation in the betting industry, though some customers had raised issues about a lack of a live chat for customer services. This has been resolved with TonyBet now providing a wide range of options for customers.

To get hold of the customer service team, punters are offered the option of e-mail, phone and now a live messaging service on the site. TonyBet’s customer service team have been noted to be very responsive and knowledgeable through all those platforms, and are available 24/7 to help with any queries.

In addition to that, TonyBet have also ventured into social media to appeal to a wider audience. They are active on platforms such as Twitter, providing punters with the latest betting news and promotions, as well as providing customer support.

Mobile App

Punters who like to bet on the move will be pleased to hear that TonyBet do have an app to download for mobile and tablet devices. Available for Apple and Android devices, TonyBet’s app includes all the same features that you will find on the desktop site.

It works smoothly with all the options and betting markets clear to see, though like the desktop version, the inclusion of flash features can slow it down from time to time.

Our Opinions of TonyBet

TonyBet’s trio of casino, poker, and gaming is enticing for users and is certainly a draw. On the sportsbook side, TonyBet has catching up to do to match the value and service of more established sportsbooks.

  1. Great for users also looking for the casino, poker, and gaming facilities
  2. Great welcome offer for new customers
  3. Other areas of the site are good, but fall flat of any 'wow' factor
