Star Sports History

Star Sports are a UK bookmaker who brands itself as one of the most exclusive betting companies in the world.

Launched as Star Racing back in 1999, the company focused on providing high value on horse racing to the more discerning punter, something that they still have a key focus on today.

Through word of mouth, their reputation began to rise across racecourses in the UK and Ireland.

As a result, the company were able to expand their betting business, with the acquisition of independent bookmakers such as Vickers, Waldron and Turner & Kendrick.

These significant developments saw them outgrow their on-course roots, and in 2009, Star Racing was rebranded to become Star Sports.

A change of name boiled down to the fact that the company wanted to reflect their growth and widening betting portfolio. No longer just offering odds and special offers on horse racing, Star Sports added a comprehensive sportsbook and an online casino to their betting bow, making them a very attractive proposition to punters.

Star Sports now possess a client list of thousands from all over the world and continues to grow its reputation for excellence, integrity and professionalism.

They are not like any other sportsbook or gambling site, as with a commitment to laying some of the largest bets in the industry, they can attract some of the most serious high-stakes bettors in the world.

Exclusivity is a big marketing ploy from Star Sports in drawing in big-money punters, with the company offering their clients a hedging facility, so they can place large bets at their own discretion.

As a luxury betting brand, don’t expect to see the Star Sports name on the front of a football shirt or on an advertising board. They have a very particular set of customers, so they don’t need to try hard to draw in new punters.

Star Sports is a name that won’t be too familiar with the average punter, but rest assured within the betting industry, they are a well-known and respected gambling establishment.

They may not be too visible in terms of advertising or via social media, but they do enhance their brand with partnerships with a host of betting ambassadors. From reputable tipsters to jockeys such as Adam Kirby, Star Sports have enlisted some of the biggest names in betting and sport.

If you want to get expert tips and advice, as well as superb offers and betting facilities, Star Sports is definitely in the Champions League of sportsbooks and betting sites.

Star Sports Overall

Star Sports have a strong reputation within the betting industry for the excellent service that they provide to their clientele.

They like to be different to the other established sportsbooks, tending to focus on those who like to bet big rather than appealing to a wide range of punters.

As a result, their customer service is exceptional due to the high standards that they adhere to while the betting on offer for sports such as football is one of the best around.

However, they are not without their faults. In comparison to the likes of William Hill, their site does look a bit dated, while features such as live streaming or a mobile app aren’t currently available.

Having said that, Star Sports have a customer base who have used them for years and will continue to do so because of their exclusivity, professionalism and high threshold for larger stakes to be placed.

Star Sports Interface

As Star Sports are more of a traditional sportsbook, their website does feel a bit dated in comparison to the likes of Betfair.

The layout is rather basic and formulaic, with options for sports betting, in-play and casino in the middle of the main page, while a list of available sports is clearly shown on the left-hand side.

All the features and betting facilities are clear and easy to access, so it meets the requirements for both novice and experienced punters.

However, for a brand that enforces a message about providing luxury and exclusivity to their clientele, the style of the site is a bit of contrast, as it really lacks a wow factor. There isn’t nearly enough on show to really grab your attention.

A couple of features, such as the day’s sports specials, are a nice touch, but in comparison to popular betting sites such as bet365, Star Sports just don’t match up in the style stakes.

Betting Markets with Star Sports

When it comes to the types of betting on offer, Star Sports have plenty to show for both high-stakes bettors and average punters.

Having started out as a horse racing specialist, there is no surprise to see it feature prominently in the markets they offer, with all the UK and Irish meetings covered.

There are some really enticing racing specials that are displayed on a daily basis, with enhanced odds for certain jockeys or trainers to have a set number of winners at a particular meeting.

Having said that, it is rather disappointing to see a lack of racing from other countries such as the USA or France, which is something that other sportsbooks such as William Hill provide.

Football is the other feature sport for Star Sports, with a great choice and variety in the markets available to bet on.  Teams and leagues from all around the world are included, with some superb value in the range of odds and special markets on offer, with daily enhanced odds for feature matches.

These offers can include enhanced trebles for specific bets, such as a particular player to score the first goal of a match.

Alongside their impressive football markets, Star Sports also deliver an extensive list of other sports to bet on that feature the likes of cricket, tennis, rugby and even table tennis.

If sports aren’t your thing, however, Star Sports also have an online casino. They have a large selection of slots and scratch cards on offer, with plenty of well-known titles such as Merlin’s Millions.

Other established sportsbooks do offer a more comprehensive list of facilities for their casino with table games and live poker for example, but there is still enough on offer to keep most bettors happy.

Star Sports are all about catering for gamblers who bet with high stakes, and there is no doubt that that is their biggest selling point when it comes to betting.

Most sportsbooks will have a limit on how much a customer can place on a bet, but with Star Sports, they are drawn towards those who bet big. Offering hedging facilities to customers allows them to not only sell themselves as an exclusive betting outlet but also enables them to cater for punters who are only interested in high-stakes betting.

As a result, few other betting sites can accommodate the high-end bettors that Star Sports currently have on their books.

Star Sports Offers and Bonuses

With Star Sports being quite selective in who they advertise to, it is no surprise to see that represented in their offers and promotions.

Unlike most betting sites with their standard welcome offer to attract new customers, Star Sports tailor their offers to which sporting events are happening at that time.

For instance, ahead of this year’s Grand National, they ran a number of welcome offers to celebrate the launch of their new website. These included winning £50 if Tiger Roll won the race.

As always with any type of promotional offer, there were qualifying requirements that needed to be met. This involved placing a bet of at least £10 online on a selection at even money or bigger, with a time-limit imposed between 9am on Thursday 12 April and 5:15pm on Saturday 14 April.

Alongside offers for new customers, Star Sports place a huge emphasis on rewarding current customers as part of their bespoke betting service. Every day they provide their bettors with enhanced odds on feature football matches as well as for the day’s horse racing action.

They also offer an incentive for customers to introduce the betting company to their friends; with the chance to win a free £50 bet if the person you have referred the site to has placed five bets of £20 or more.

Other sportsbooks may offer a more substantial list of offers and promotions to draw in new punters, but with Star Sports, it seems they are more interested in rewarding customers who remain loyal to them.

Star Sports Content (Live Streaming, Audio, Radio, Blogs, Previews)

We have seen over the last few years a growing trend for sportsbooks and betting sites to provide additional content to both inform and entertain their customers.

Star Sports are all about providing an excellent service to their clientele, and that is clear to see with the variety of content that is currently available to access on their website.

There is a vast array of features for punters to peruse when they click on the news tab, with horse racing blogs from trainers and jockeys, videos that contain betting previews for feature sporting events and columns from their in-house tipsters.

The level of detail is very impressive, with respected broadcasters such as Sky Sports presenter Julie Collier, delivering in-depth video previews.

Very few sportsbooks provide this level of quality in terms of content, so you can see why this betting site attracts a certain type of punter.

Having said that, the only negative is the lack of live streaming for in-play betting.

In signing up with a betting site, customers expect to be able to watch live sport and bet on it at the same time.

With Star Sport, this isn’t an option currently available, which is strange considering how they label themselves as a luxury betting service, yet they don’t offer a service that many mainstream sportsbooks do provide.

Star Sports In-Play

Having launched their new website in April 2018, you would expect Star Sports to deliver a bespoke in-play betting service.

However, in comparison to more mainstream sites such as Unibet, Star Sports simply don’t offer nearly as much in terms of available markets to bet on.

Take football for example. The usual odds are there with outrights, goals, handicaps and halves betting, but beyond that, there isn’t much in the way of variety.

Other sportsbooks offer intriguing little markets such as a player to be carded or to score a certain type of goal. With Star Sports, unless it is a feature game, it is all rather dull and predictable.

Even the graphics used to show how a game is progressing look rather dated, with basic stats on display with the time, score and the number of shots, cards and corners.

A lack of live streaming only adds to the problem.

Star Sports boasts about offering punters a superb betting experience, one that is exclusive and luxurious. Their in-play betting isn’t anything like that, with sportsbooks such as Sky Bet delivering a much more exciting and engaging service.

Star Sports Stats & Form

Most sportsbooks like to incorporate stats and form guides on their sites so punters can use them to form their own betting strategies. Star Sports are no different, though do it in their own bespoke way.

Rather than having a database or a stats page for punters to go to, the stats provided by Star Sports are used in their betting previews.

This has its pros and cons. On the plus side, all the relevant stats for a particular event are in one place, with tips included on the back of those.

However, for some bettors, they like to make their own mind up when using stats and don’t need to be swayed by a tipster working for a sportsbook.

It may be a small negative, but for a service that always looks to put the customer first, it would be better to give users the option of whether or not they want to access a stats page.

Rather than being served with tailored betting previews that contain selected stats, the customer should be able to pick out the stats and form that appeals to them, before placing a bet.

Star Sports Banking and Withdrawals

When it comes to the methods available for making deposits and withdrawals, Star Sports only offer a limited service.

We have seen that for their high-stakes clients, they are very accommodating, providing a hedging facility that enables large amounts of money to be placed on bets on the site.

However, when it boils down to the options for regular clients, there isn’t too much to choose from.

Cards are the main method with debit and credit cards both accepted via Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and Visa Electron.

Payments for cards take 2-5 working days, while bank transfers are also accepted.

When it comes to more niche methods, such as e-wallets or bitcoin, these types of banking methods are nowhere to be seen.

Star Sports are very much a traditional betting company, so it does explain to an extent why they are quite limited in their banking options.

If you are somebody who uses more alternative methods to make deposits and withdrawals to your betting accounts, Star Sports are probably not going to be the betting site for you.

Star Sports Customer Satisfaction

Star Sports call themselves the “delicatessen” of the betting world, delivering their customers with an exclusive, personalised and high-quality service.

With such high standards, there is no surprise to see the site receive huge praise within the betting community, with Star Sports customers based all around the world.

Their customer service team are one of the best around, with calls taken by experienced traders who can resolve betting queries quickly.

Star Sports also provide a live chat service on the site, with a friendly and knowledgeable customer service team on hand to deal with any issues that may occur.

In addition to that, there is also an FAQ section that can resolve more simple betting queries.

Customer service can make or break a reputation for a sportsbook, but with such an eye for detail and making sure the customer is put first, Star Sports are certainly one of the leading lights in the business.

Star Sports Mobile App: N/A

Star Sports’ traditional outlook has potentially swayed them against producing a bespoke mobile app, as they may feel it does not fit in with their image and profile.

Their chosen customers are more likely to spend time thinking out their strategy rather than betting quickly on the go.

Although their desktop site works fine on mobile, it does appear a tad cluttered and is clearly an area Star Sports can improve, although it is up for debate as to whether they would want to.
