Back in early 2020, Betstars rebranded itself in NJ as Fox Bet, with the states of Colorado, Michigan, and Pennsylvania quick to follow. Therefore rather than the Betstars free bet, we’ll be referring to the current Fox Bet free bet below. Not to worry though, as we mentioned above the new Fox Bet bonus is bigger and better than the BetStars free bet ever was. In fact, it’s ever better than the much-lauded DraftKings risk free bet!
So stay with us to find out more!
The Betstars free bet (now rebranded as Fox Bet), now comes in the form of a risk free bet worth up to the value of $500. For those of you unfamiliar with how a risk free betting bonus works, allows us to explain – it’s pretty simple. A risk free betting bonus is essentially a betting offer that gives you a second roll of the dice. If the first bet you place with Fox Bet doesn’t come up, you’ll be given a free bet of equal value.
To claim the risk free bet with Fox Bet, all you have to do is sign up to the site and make your first deposit of between $10 and $500. Then, once that’s done place your first sports wager on odds of -200 or greater. If that bet loses, Fox Bet will then give you a second chance by depositing a free bet token worth the same value into your account.
Just note that the free bet token is given to you based on the value of your first bet and not your first deposit. For example, if you deposit $100 but your first bet is just $50 and it loses, then your free bet token will be worth $50 in value.
As you might’ve guessed by the above explanation, you can only get your hands on the Fox Bet free bet if your first bet loses. Therefore this does mean that if your first bet’s a winner you don’t get a bonus. However, you will have the winnings from your bet, which is actually better – so happy days. Additionally, there are a lot of other offers that you can claim as an existing customer, the details for which you can find at the bottom of this page.
If you’re looking for a matched offer rather than a free bet, you can take a look here at the DraftKings deposit bonus.
You can use the Fox Bet risk free bet pretty much freely within the Fox Bet sportsbook. Those of you who came here looking for the old Betstars light needn’t be worried here – the rebranded Fox Bet version of the site follows the exact same model – only it might have been updated since you’ve last seen it. Otherwise, the only big change you’ll notice is to the color scheme, as the red and whites of Betstars have been replaced with the blue, white and golden yellow of Fox Sports.
When it comes to using your free bet token in the Fox Bet sportsbook, you have the choice between multitude of sports. From slotwart All-American pro sports leagues such as the NFL and the NBA, to tennis, snooker and MMA – they’ve got it all here. Additionally, you can go international and use it to bet on European soccer, rugby or Aussie rules football.
It’s just important to remember that the free bet has to be used as a single wager, it cannot be split up. For example, if you have a $100 bonus, you cannot split that into four $25 bets – it has to be used on one solid $100 wager. Additionally, there’s a minimum odds requirement of -200, but we’ll explain that in more details further down. These conditions were part of the Betstar free bet terms and have been carried over to the Fox bet version of the bonus. You’ll find that most similar bonuses, including the TVG free bet, have similar conditions.
Speaking of TGV bet, that reminds us that the one sport you can’t put your Fox Bet risk free bonus on is horse racing, as it’s unavailable with this provided. For dedicated horse racing promos, check out the TGV deposit bonus and the free bet as mentioned above.
First and foremost, you need to consider the fact that the Betstar free bet technically no longer exists. So you do need to consider the fact that this is essentially a different bonus, on a new site with different branding. We’ll make this consideration easy for you though, as the Fox Bet rebranding has been an absolutely rip-roaring success that we rate very highly. They’ve taken the old Betstars background sportsbook model and improved it tenfold.
You do also need to consider the state and jurisdiction restrictions that come with the Fox Bet bonus. As you may likely be aware, online and mobile sports wagering in the US is only legal at federal level, meaning it’s up to individual states to decide if they want to legalize sports wagering within their borders.
Fox Bet is currently licensed and available in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Michigan. While we’re confident that Fox Bet will arrive at other legal US gambling states in the near future, we wouldn’t advise waiting around. If you’re from a legal US gambling state other than those listed above we’d continue shopping around for betting site deals where you are.
Perhaps the most important thing that you should consider before claiming this risk free bet is your budget. If you had a deposit and first bet budget in mind then stick to it. Rember that $500 is the maximum Betstars free bet that you can claim – there’s also a $10 minimum and everything in between. Don’t do something brash like depositing and betting more just for the sake of grabbing yourself a bigger bonus.
As with everything in life nothing truly comes for free. Actually the risk free bet with Fox Bet does come incredibly close. Still there are few small restrictions to look out for within the terms and conditions. We’ve done the hard work of reading through the bonus terms and conditions. We’ve detailed the major sticking points below and how best to work with them to make sure you get the most out of this bonus.
This offer is strictly only available to verified new customers and can only be claimed once per customer. Therefore, even if you have had a Fox Bet account in the past and closed it down, you won’t be able to claim this bonus upon reopening the account.
In order to become a fully verified account holder with Fox Bet, you just need to sign up using the last four digits of your social security number, provide other proof that you are over 21 years of age and make your first real money deposit.
There are a couple of time restrictions to look out for with regards to this bonus. Firstly in order to claim this bonus, you’ll need to place your first qualifying bet within 30 days of verification. Once placed, the bet needs to be settled within 90 days to qualify for the promotions – just as it was with the Betstars free bet. Lastly, once granted, you’ll have to sue your free bet within 30 days.
In general terms, these time limits are all pretty fair and not too restrictive at all and are actually pretty fair. The only thing we’d say is that if you’re a fan of wagering on certain sports, then time your verification so that you do it when a league or competition in that sport is running. For example, if you only like wagering on the NFL, then don’t sign up and claim the bonus in May.

In order to qualify for the promotion, your first bet must be placed at odds of -200 or greater. Additionally, cashed out and voided bets are not eligible for the bonus. This is an easy one to work around, as bets at shorter odds of -200 have no value anyway and you just have to resist cashing out – simple!
Before you can withdraw your winnings, your bonus funds must be played through 100% at the same minimum odds of -200. For example, if you win $100 from your free bet, you’ll need to wager a total of $100 before you can withdraw those winnings as cash. This is actually pretty easy, especially as some of your playthrough wagers are likely to win and your bankroll could therefore increase. Still, keep track and be careful.
This is a very common restriction that applied to the terms and conditions of quite literally every free bet bonus in the world. With the Betstars free bet, and now the Fox Bet risk-free bet, your free bet amount is not returned alongside your winnings. For example, if your free bet token is worth $100 and is placed at odds of +200, then your total returns will be $200. With a real money bet, they would be $300, as your own $100 stake would also be returned.
There’s no way around this and we just have to accept it. No online betting sites can afford to dish out what effectively would be free money.
The brand switch from BetStars to Fox Bet hasn’t only brought us the much-improved $500 risk free bet. In addition, there are also a number of existing customer bonuses for you to get your hands on.
For starters, you can get a free $5 bet when you bet $10 on parlay bets. You need to opt in for this bet, but the best thing is that you can claim it every week. Other weekly offers include Free Bet Friday, which gives you the chance to win a $100 bet every Friday at 8am. You can also find bet boosters, and weekly challenges with which you can personalize your bets.
You should also keep your eyes peeled all the time, as throughout all of the American major sports league season you’ll find team and competition specials. For example, you could get 10x your winnings if the Lakers score!
