The tournament winner is the player or team that win the final of a competition – whether it is the World Cup, Wimbledon or the US Open. It depends on how the event is structured as to how the tournament is won and that can include straight knock out matches, a group stage, or a mixture of the two – as with football’s Champions League.
How is Tournament Winner used in Sports Betting?
The tournament winner bet can sometimes be a long sighted bet as the best odds will be available long before the event begins. Obviously if there is a lot of time between the bet being placed and the event commencing the odds will be longer – but a lot can happen in that time.
A tournament winner bet is known as an outright as it is not concerned with the individual matches of a league season, or the rounds of a tennis competition. The tournament winner bet is just a selection on who will be victorious at the end.
These kind of outright bets are very popular – and sometimes part of a larger accumulator bet – but are not as regularly successful due to the length of time they can take to become settled. Bettors can of course select a tournament winner closer to the end of an event but the odds will be much shorter as it will be more evident who is likely to win.
