A three-fold is a single bet that covers three separate selections, and all three must win for you to get a payout. It is one of the most common multi-selection bets you will come across, and it goes by another name you may already know: a
treble. The two terms describe exactly the same bet structure.
You will see the word "three-fold" used mostly on soccer betting menus and in UK-influenced betting language, where the "fold" naming convention is standard. This page explains how a three-fold works, walks through the math with a real soccer example, and covers what to expect when you place one.
What does three-fold mean?
A three-fold is a type of
accumulator
- a bet that chains multiple selections together into one wager. Your stake rides on the first selection, and if that wins, the full return rolls onto the second selection. If that wins too, the whole return rolls onto the third. All three legs must come in or the bet loses. A single wrong result means you get nothing back.
The "fold" in the name simply counts how many selections are in the chain. A two-fold has two selections, a three-fold has three, a four-fold has four, and so on. Most sportsbooks that use this naming system display it clearly in the parlay or multi-bet builder when you add selections to your bet slip. The odds from each selection are multiplied together, which is why the potential payout grows fast - and why the risk does too.
Real-life example
Say you are betting on three MLS matches on a Saturday afternoon. You back the home team in each game. The sportsbook shows you these American odds: Team A to win at +110, Team B to win at -120, and Team C to win at +130.
To work out a three-fold payout, it helps to convert each price to a decimal. A +110 line equals 2.10, a -120 line equals 1.833, and a +130 line equals 2.30. You multiply those three decimals together: 2.10 x 1.833 x 2.30. That comes to roughly 8.85. Place a $20 stake, and the math is simple: $20 x 8.85 = $177.00 total payout, which includes your original $20 back. Your profit if all three win is $157.00.
If any one of the three teams loses or draws - even the shortest-priced Team B at -120 - the whole bet loses. You do not get a partial payout for going two from three. That is the defining rule of any accumulator, and the three-fold is no different.
When you'll see three-fold
The term shows up most often in soccer betting, where multi-match accumulators are a core part of how many bettors approach a weekend fixture list. When you add three match result picks to your bet slip on a sportsbook, the slip will usually label the combined bet as a "three-fold accumulator" or simply a "3-fold." You will also see it on bet confirmation screens and in your account's betting history.
Outside soccer, the same structure exists under different names. In US-facing sportsbooks it is often just called a three-team parlay. The math and the rules are identical - the label depends on which tradition the sportsbook's interface follows. If you are browsing
soccer betting sites, three-fold language is the norm. On a US-focused NFL book, parlay language tends to dominate. Either way, you are placing the same type of bet.
The closest relative is the
treble, which is the same three-selection accumulator under a different name - the two are interchangeable. Step down one selection and you have a
double bet, a two-fold where both picks must win. Step up and you reach a

Is a three-fold the same as a treble?

What happens if one leg of my three-fold is a draw?
