The Scoop6 is a pool bet that is mainly offered on a Saturday by Betfred, the owners of the Tote. The bet involves selecting the winner of six races which are often handicaps, making the bet difficult to win.
If there are no winning tickets the pool is carried forward to the next Scoop6 and the pot increases so the jackpot goes up accordingly. The bet offers the potential for a big win for a small stake, as the minimum unit is £2, which equates to the price of a Lottery ticket. Scoop6 bettors can include permutations on their bet, which means more than one horse can be covered in any race.

How is Scoop6 used in Sports Betting?
In 2012 Betfred purchased the Tote and as the Scoop6 pool bet existed at the time Betfred took over the running of the bet. The bet was designed to attract lottery players due to the small stake and the potential to win over £1m.
Customers need to find the winners of six races which are selected by Betfred and Totesport and announced before the day of the bet. The races are generally competitive and mainly handicaps and are often live on television.
The bet costs £2 but there is no limit to the number of entries any person can make. It is possible to choose more than one selection in each race and the number of bets is calculated by multiplying the number of selections in each race. With two selections in each race the number of bets is as follows:

The cost of perming two horses in each race is £128, but the cost of covering several horses can make the bet expensive so it has attracted syndicates whose members pool their resources.
The winner of the Scoop6 can win bigger by selecting the winner of a bonus race on the following Saturday.
