What is a Run Out?

A run out is one of the many ways in which a batsman can be out during a game of cricket. It is also one of the many ways you can bet on with online cricket betting sites. Other ways to get out include being bowled, caught or stumped. A batsman is said to be run out if he is outside the batting crease when the fielding team manages to knock the bails off the stumps.

In order to avoid being run out, a batsman only has to get the tip of his bat inside the batting crease before the wicket is hit. Run out decisions are often difficult for umpires to judge due to the speed at which the action takes place and the fine margins involved. Because of this, they are often referred to the third umpire who can watch video replays.

How are Run Outs used in Sports Betting?

It’s possible to place a bet with one of the top bookmakers on the number of run outs which might take place in a game of cricket, or to choose a range of numbers – between 1 and 3, 3 to 5 etc. – before the match starts. It’s far more likely, however, that bets on a run out happening within a certain number of overs will be placed as in play betting during the course of the match.

This is because the chances of a run out happening increase dramatically if one of the teams is chasing a total and getting close to that total toward the end of the match. For the same reason, run outs are far more likely to take place in limited over cricket such as One Day matches or T20 matches, in which a fast scoring rate is of paramount importance.

It should be noted by anyone placing a bet on the number of wickets a bowler will claim during the course of a match that a run out will not count toward a bowlers match figures.
