Outright is a term that can be used across many sports but is generally used to describe the overall winner of a set league or competition.
Often placed before a season’s start to gain maximum value, outright bets are still available throughout any stage of a competition or league and are a popular way for punters to get value from the outset of a tournament.
Outright is similar in a sense to placing a match winner bet only on a grander scale as outright bets tend to refer to the winner of the whole competition, rather than just a single match, and can be used in any sport.

How is Outright used in Sports Betting?
Outright bets are popular among punters as prior to a tournament, there is plenty of value to be had.
For example, those punters who would had backed Manchester City to be the outright winners of the Premier League for the 2017-18 season would have received far better odds than those who placed the same outright bet at the midway point of the season.
As the season progresses, outright bets are still available, but the bookmaker has more reliable results data to go on and thus will bring the odds in line with the realistic expectations of a side.
At the start of a league, although the sportsbooks have an idea who will be in contention, there are still a number of factors that could change at any time, thus lengthening the odds.
To get maximum value from outright bets, the general rule of thumb is the earlier you bet before the start of a league or tournament, the better the value the odds will be.
Did you know…
Those lucky punters who placed an outright bet on Leicester City to become Premier League champions prior to the 2015-16 season received odds as high as 5000/1.
Even though many punters places the outright bet a couple of months into the season, one gambler cashed out in April of that season for £200,000 after a £100 wager.
