What is a Multiple?
A multiple is a series of single bets that the punter chooses to combine together in order to make a multiple.
A multiple bet can consist of as many selections as the bettor likes but are most commonly in double, triples and four-folds and are also called accumulators or parlays.
Although multiple bets offer the chance to dramatically improve the odds in a punter’s betting slip, the main issue with a multiple bet is that if just one bet in the accumulator loses, then the whole bet is lost. That’s as opposed to single bets in which only that bet is affected.
This does make for excitement, however, and multiple bets are some of the most popular among punters.
How is Multiple used in Sports Betting?
An example of placing a multiple bet in sports betting would be to select three football teams to win their respective matches firstly as single bets.
The bettor can then add the multiple bet by joining them together and create three doubles and a treble, which is a trixie.
This dramatically increases the odds so they are far superior than just the single bet odds but it is important to note that when placing a multiple, each bet inside the accumulator requires its own stake. As the above example has three doubles and a treble, it would mean that if the punter staked £2 per bet, it would come to a total stake of £8 as £ 2x 4 = £8.
