A goal kick takes place in a game of soccer after the attacking team has sent the whole ball across the opposition’s goal line, and a goal is not scored. Regardless of whether the ball is in the air, on the ground, come off the post, or near the corner flag, if the attacking team has touched it last, a goal kick will be awarded. In the majority of cases, the goal kick will be taken by the goalkeeper, but it can in fact be taken by any member of the defending team. Certain conditions apply to the taking of a goal kick – the ball has to be stationary and opponents have to stay outside the penalty area until it has been taken.

How is a Goal Kick used in Sports Betting?
The world of sports is full of many interesting stats, facts, and figures. Unsurprisingly, the sports betting world is full of many betting markets that allow you to put these findings, theories, and predictions to the test.
Generally, we would suggest goal kicks are harder to predict than goals scored, yellow cards, or a moneyline, but if you’re looking to try your luck on an upcoming fixture, why not have a quick look through the goal kick market - you may find some great odds waiting for you. For other tips on betting soccer, be sure to have a look at our Soccer Betting Strategies.
There are two main ways in which bettors can place goal kick bets. Firstly, your chosen sportsbook will provide a number of total goal kick ranges, i.e., 0-5, 5-10, etc. To successfully profit from your wager, the total number of goal kicks taken throughout the match must fall into your chosen range.
For example, if nine goal kicks were taken throughout your chosen match-up and you had placed a wager on 5-10, your bet would have been successful. It is also worth noting some sportsbooks will offer you the chance to wager on home, away, or combined goal kicks.
Alternatively, your chosen sportsbook may provide you with a spread on the number of goal kicks. In a bet of this kind,, the bookmaker could offer a spread of 8-10 goal kicks during the match. Bettors will buy at ten if they think there will be more than ten goal kicks or sell at eight if they believe there will be less than 8. If there are eventually 12 goal kicks during the match, then a £100 bet would payout like this:
Bought at 10 – the bet has won. There were two more than ten goal kicks, and so the profit on the bet will be £200
Sold at 8 – the bet has lost. There were four more than eight goal kicks, and so the loss will be £400.
As with all types of sports betting, there are pros and cons to each. The main downside with placing bets of this kind is that they are generally very difficult to predict accurately. Even knowing the form of a team, and the fact that they will attack a great deal, for example, doesn’t make it any clearer whether they will generate a high number of goal kicks or corners.
