What is Full Cover?
Full cover is the name given to a bet which features multiple selections. In a full cover bet, the selections are combined in every way possible, and the bets have different names depending upon the number of selections featured. A 3 selection full cover bet is known as a Trixie, 4 selections as a Yankee, 5 as a Canadian, 6 as a Heinz, 7 as a Super Heinz and 8 as a Goliath. The bets covered for each of these are as follows:
Trixie – 4 bets, 3 doubles and one treble
Yankee – 11 bets, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and1 fourfold
Canadian – 26 bets, 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 fourfold bets, 1 fivefold
Heinz – 57 bets, 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 fourfold bets,6 fivefold bets and one sixfold bet
Super Heinz – 120 bets, 21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 fourfold bets, 21 fivefold bets, 7 sixfold bets, 1 sevenfold bet
Goliath – 247 bets, 28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 fourfold bets,56 fivefold bets,28 sixfold bets,8 sevenfold bets, 1 eightfold bet.
How is Full Cover used in Sports Betting?
A full cover bet offers an alternative to an accumulator when betting on multiple selections. The advantage of a full cover bet is that it can still deliver a profit if not all of the selections are successful. An accumulator, on the other hand, will lose if just one of the selections fails to win. One aspect of a full cover bet which should be carefully noted is that the stake will grow to accommodate the number of bets being placed. A bettor placing a £5 accumulator bet on three Premier League teams playing over one weekend will only have to place a stake of £5. A full cover bet, on the other hand, might be a Trixie, which is 4 separate bets and therefore a stake of £20, or even a patent, which also includes single bets on each selection, and so involves 7 bets and a total stake of £35.
Given the amount of money which has to be invested, full cover bets in which all the selections are short odds don’t produce a sufficiently high pay out. The fact that not all selections need to win means that a few choices with longer odds can be made, in the knowledge that the bet will still pay-out if they fail, and if they win the profit will be substantial.
