What is First Round Leader (Golf)?
In the major golf tournaments players will complete four rounds of golf over four days to determine a winner. Due to the large number of entrants there is a cut after the first two rounds, leaving the remaining players to continue the competition. The first round leader is the name given to the person who has played the initial round in the least amount of strokes.
How is First Round Leader (Golf) used in Sports Betting?
There are plenty of markets to choose from when it comes to golf betting but one of the most popular ones – apart the outright winner – is the first round leader. Bettors will attempt to predict who will be number one on the leaderboard at the end of the first day’s play.
Although a golf player will obviously need to be fairly good to be the first round leader, experienced bettors will know that they should not necessarily select the favourites for the whole tournament as some of the best golfers take their time and win by being consistent over the four rounds.
Some golfers will get off to a very quick start but then fade as the competition goes on so the skill is knowing whether an individual favours a particular course – and if they are historically slow starters.
