A bogey-free round is the target for all golfers both on the professional and amateur circuit. It is achieved when a player plays all 18 holes of a course without dropping a single shot to par on every hole.
For example, a golf course will have a par score which is usually around the 72 shots mark. That means that in order to score par for the course, the player must ensure they take no more than 72 shots in total to complete the 18 holes.
However, in order to complete a bogey-free round, the player must make sure they do not exceed the par score for each individual hole throughout the course. That is a hard achievement to record, and one which even the pros find difficult to attain.
This is because a bogey is a score just one shot over the hole par and would be when a hole has a par score of four but the player takes five shots to hole their ball.
How is Bogey-free Round used in Sports Betting?
Any player who scores a bogey-free round will have ensure that the worse score they could possibly be on in the tournament is even par. However, they are much more likely to be under par and in contention for the tournament.
This is important when it comes to sports betting as players favour certain style courses and may have achieved a higher number of bogey-free rounds at one venue than another.
This means their chances of winning, or at least placing in the top ten is greatly enhanced meaning the opportunity to make a top 10 finish bet or outright winner bet is enhanced on that particular player.

Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith achieved the feat at the 2017 Zurich Classic of New Orleans competition (though that was a team event) and Lee Trevino did it at the 1974 Greater New Orleans Open.
