What is Acca in Betting? Acca Explained in 2 minutes

An acca is a single bet that links together multiple selections - all of them have to win for you to collect. The word is simply a shortened, informal version of "accumulator," and you'll hear it used this way by bettors and sportsbooks alike. If you've come across it on a betting slip or in a chat about odds, you're in the right place.
Accas are popular because a small stake can return a large payout. But that upside comes with a catch: one losing selection wipes out the entire bet. This page walks through exactly how an acca works, with real numbers so you can see the math for yourself.
What does acca mean?
Acca is just shorthand for accumulator - the same bet, a more casual name. An accumulator strings together two or more selections into one wager. Your stake (the amount you risk) rolls through each selection in sequence. Each time a selection wins, the returns from that pick are automatically staked on the next one. By the time you reach the final selection, the potential payout has multiplied significantly. That compounding effect is why accas appeal to bettors who want big returns from a modest outlay.
In US sports betting the same structure is more commonly called a
parlay. Outside the US, and in global sportsbooks that operate here, you'll see "acca" used freely - especially in soccer betting. The two terms describe the same mechanic. A two-team acca is sometimes called a
double; a three-team version is a treble. Once you hit four or more selections, most sportsbooks label it an accumulator or acca regardless of the exact count.
Real-life example
Say it's an NFL Sunday and you like three teams to win outright. You find the following moneyline odds at a US sportsbook: the Kansas City Chiefs at -130, the Philadelphia Eagles at +110, and the Buffalo Bills at -115. You decide to combine all three into a single acca with a $10 stake.
To work out the payout you convert each American odds figure into a decimal multiplier. A -130 line is roughly 1.77. A +110 line is 2.10. A -115 line is roughly 1.87. Multiply those together: 1.77 x 2.10 x 1.87 comes to approximately 6.95. Multiply that by your $10 stake and your total payout would be around $69.50, which includes your original $10 back. Your net profit would be roughly $59.50 from a $10 bet.
Now for the honest part. If even one of those three teams loses - say the Bills fall short - your acca loses in full. You get back nothing. That is the fundamental trade-off: higher potential returns in exchange for a bet that needs everything to go right.
When you'll see acca
You'll most often encounter the word "acca" on sportsbooks that cater to international markets or have roots outside the US. Soccer-focused betting sites use it heavily, and it appears regularly in promotions like "acca insurance" - where the sportsbook refunds your stake as a free bet if one leg of your accumulator lets you down. If you browse
soccer betting sites, acca promotions are among the most common offers you'll see advertised.
On more US-centric sportsbooks the same bet lives under the parlay builder, and the word acca may not appear at all. The underlying structure is identical though. Whether the slip says parlay or acca, you are making the same kind of multi-selection, all-or-nothing bet. Understanding one means you already understand the other.
If accas interest you, a few related terms are worth knowing. A
treble
is a three-selection acca specifically - the name is used in the same casual, shorthand way that acca is. A
multiple
is a broader term covering any bet that combines several selections, which includes accas of all sizes. And a
four-fold
is the name for an acca with exactly four selections - the naming pattern continues with five-folds, six-folds, and so on from there.

FAQs
Is an acca the same thing as a parlay?
Yes, functionally they are identical. Both combine multiple selections into one bet where all picks must win. The word "acca" is used more in British and international betting culture, while "parlay" is the standard US term. If you know how one works, you know how the other works.
How many selections do you need for an acca?
Most sportsbooks allow an acca from two selections upward. A two-selection acca is often called a double, and a three-selection version is a treble. Anything from four selections up is typically called a four-fold, five-fold, and so on - though many bettors and sportsbooks refer to all of them loosely as accas.
Why do accas lose so often?
Each extra selection you add multiplies the odds in your favour, but it also multiplies the number of things that can go wrong. If you build a five-team acca, all five results need to go your way. Statistically, that is much harder than winning a single bet. The sportsbook also builds its edge (called the juice or vig) into every individual leg, so that cost compounds across the whole acca.
