PrizePicks Halts Prediction Markets in Missouri

PrizePicks suspended its Team Picks prediction market sports derivatives product in Missouri. The company emailed its customers that it was halting all sports-event contracts. This was a voluntary suspension by PrizePicks. The company was not among the prediction markets that were issued cease-and-desist letters by state Attorney General Catherine Hanaway.
Hanaway sent specific cease-and-desist letters to six separate prediction market sites. Polymarket, Kalshi, Robinhood, Crypto.com, Novig, and Underdog were all issued letters. The sites were accused of operating illegal sports betting in Missouri. They were told to obtain a sports betting license from the Missouri Gaming Commission if they wanted to continue to operate in the state.
PrizePicks surprisingly shuts down its Missouri operation
Quietly, PrizePicks made a statement via its social media accounts. It announced the suspension of its Team Picks program in the state of Missouri.
"Due to updated legal requirements for prediction markets in Missouri, PrizePicks is required to suspend Team Picks in the state,” the company announced in the social media statement.
PrizePicks entered the prediction market business a little under a year ago. The company launched Team Picks and Culture Picks in November of 2025. Through these sports-event contracts, PrizePicks offered players the chance to play event contracts. They were offering them the opportunity to trade on game winners, point spreads, and totals.
The Team Picks portion of the PrizePicks prediction market operation is shutting down. However, the company indicated that it would continue to offer its non-sports Culture Picks to players in the Show Me State. These offer trades on pop culture and entertainment outcomes.
PrizePicks also continues to offer its daily fantasy sports (DFS) games in Missouri. Both Player Picks and Arena are approved and licensed by the Missouri Gaming Commission.
PrizePicks opts to err on the side of caution
Was PrizePicks in fear of losing its DFS license in Missouri? Did that lead to PrizePicks opting to shut down its sports-event contract operation? Missouri AG Hanaway made it abundantly clear with her recent actions. She is coming after prediction market sites that are offering sports-event contracts.
"Missourians voted for a safe, well‑regulated sports wagering market that supports public education and addresses problem gambling," Hanaway said in a statement. "Companies cannot repackage sports bets as ‘event contracts’ to avoid Missouri law.
"We will enforce the rules voters approved and protect consumers. Any company that wants to offer sports wagering in Missouri must be licensed by the Missouri Gaming Commission, pay the required taxes and fees, and ensure no one under 21 can place a bet.”
Six prediction market sites receive cease-and-desist letter from the Missouri AG
Late last month, Hanaway announced that her office had issued cease-and-desist letters to multiple prediction market operators. These sites are offering sports “event contracts” to Missourians. Her letter noted that facilitating such “event contracts” constitutes unlicensed sports wagering under state law.
The Attorney General’s Office sent cease-and-desist letters to six companies: Polymarket, Kalshi, Crypto.com, Novig, Underdog, and Robinhood.
Hanaway is suggesting that the prediction market sites can follow two options if they desire to continue offering sports-event contracts to players in the Show Me State.
The two options are: (1) it must cease and desist from such activity. Or (2) it must (a) obtain a license from the Missouri Gaming Commission, (b) pay all associated state taxes and fees, and (c) stop offering sports wagering to persons in the State of Missouri under the age of 21.
