Massachusetts Lifts Ban on Table Tennis Betting

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has lifted its ban on TT Elite Series table tennis betting. In February, a ban was put in place over integrity concerns. The MGC decided to limit table tennis sports betting offerings in the state to events sanctioned by the International Table Tennis Federation.
However, the MGC received a petition from online sports betting site DraftKings requesting the return of TT Elite Series table tennis to state betting markets. Following an MGC review, the commission found that the TT Elite Series met industry standards with regard to integrity. A decision was made to make it available once more as part of the Massachusetts sports betting menu.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission votes 5-0 to return TT Elite Series table tennis betting
Following an in-house investigation, the MGC decided to act on the DraftKings petition regarding TT Elite table tennis.
"On February 12 of this past year, the Commission voted to remove all table tennis competitions that were not directly governed by the International Table Tennis Federation," MGC member Andrew Steffen said during a recent MGC meeting. "[This was] based on integrity concerns identified during our review of table tennis offerings last year."
Within a month, the MGC received a petition from DraftKings requesting that TT Elite Series table tennis be returned to the Massachusetts sports betting calendar. DraftKings provided the MGC with information on the league's governance, integrity controls, and operational oversight.
Following receipt of this petition, MGC officials began an investigation into the TT Elite Series. They spoke with gambling regulators in other jurisdictions and with members of the International Betting Integrity Commission (IBIA).
"Based on our additional review, we believe that there have been meaningful changes and improvements to the league since our initial reviews last year," Steffen said.
Discussions with the IBIA revealed there have been improvements to the league's integrity infrastructure. The company has tightened its integrity protocols. They've become more transparent and proactive in their dealings with integrity organizations. TT Elite is sharing information with the IBIA and the league's data provider.
DraftKings noted that its platforms in other jurisdictions had handled 53,000 wagers on TT Elite Series matches without a single integrity concern.
Following discussion on the matter, MGC commissioners voted unanimously (5-0) in favor of restoring TT Elite Series matches to the state's sports betting catalog.

Each tournament is also an opportunity to present your skills on the world stage and a chance to sign a professional contract. Each match is broadcast via the streaming platform."
