Cleveland is also acquiring Cam Whitmore from Washington. The Nuggets will receive an unprotected 2031 first-round pick from Cleveland and a 2032 second-round pick from the Sacramento Kings. Those assets give Denver additional flexibility as it continues building around its veteran core and planning for the next stage of the franchise.

Peyto's departure is notable because he had emerged as one of the team's NBA Players to watch. His 2025-26 campaign included career highs across several categories, but a recurring hamstring problem limited him to 54 games and kept him out of Denver's playoff series against Minnesota.

The Nuggets finished third in the Western Conference after closing the regular season with a 12-game winning streak. Their postseason ended in the first round, however, when the Minnesota Timberwolves eliminated them in six games. Watson's absence left Denver without a developing rotation piece during that series.

Strus Moves to the Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers will acquire veteran Max Strus from Cleveland as part of the transaction. Strus spent three seasons with the Cavaliers and became an important rotation player because of his shooting and experience, but a left foot Jones fracture restricted him to 12 games last season, when he averaged 11.2 points.

The move gives Los Angeles an experienced perimeter option while Cleveland shifts toward younger talent. Tre Mann, meanwhile, heads to Washington after averaging 5.5 points in 53 games last season, following a 2024-25 campaign in which he averaged 14.1 points for Charlotte.
