Circa Sports Granted Arizona Sports Betting License

Arizona is actively pursuing sports betting expansion

The announcement of the planned launch of Circa Sports is the first win for the ADG. Earlier in the summer, the state regulator announced a plan to grow the number of sportsbooks that were active in Arizona. The ADG opened up a window to accept sports betting licensing applications from June 27 through July 10. In this instance, Circa Sports is the first successful applicant. Although the granting of the license wasn't announced until Monday, it was officially awarded to Circa Sports on July 27.

"With the allocation, the operator will be approved to offer sports betting and event wagering in Arizona," the ADG announced in a statement. "The Department will work with the licensee on next steps for the operational launch."

Jeff Benson, the Director of Operations for Circa Sports, announced via the social media site X that the company was targeting Q1 of 2027 for its Arizona launch.

Meanwhile, the ADG indicated it was planning to add a 14th sportsbook in partnership with one of the pro sports teams situated in the Grand Canyon State in the near future.

Circa Sports is the sixth sportsbook to form a partnership with a state tribe

The San Juan Southern Paiute was previously the Arizona sports betting partner of Betway. That partnership came to an end last year. That's when Betway opted to make a complete exit from the US sports betting market.

By teaming up with Circa Sports, it now gives Arizona six sports betting sites that partner with one of the state's tribes. Also partnering with tribal organizations in the state are Bet365 (Ak-Chin Indian Community), Hard Rock Bet (Navajo Nation), Fanatics (Tonto Apache Tribe), Desert Diamond (Tohono O’odham Nation), and BetCris (San Carlos Apache Tribe). FanDuel (NBA Phoenix Suns), DraftKings (TPC Scottsdale), Bally Bet (WNBA Phoenix Mercury), theScore Bet (Phoenix Raceway), BetRivers (Arizona Rattlers), BetMGM (NFL Arizona Cardinals), and Caesars (MLB Arizona Diamondbacks) partner with pro sports organizations.

Along with Betway, Sporttrade and Golden Nugget also recently exited the Arizona sports betting market.

Arizona is the seventh state for Circa Sports

Once it launches in Arizona, Circa Sports will have a sports betting presence in seven US states. The company also has sportsbooks in Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, and Nevada. Circa Sports has one of two untethered sports betting licenses in Missouri.

Established in 2019, Circa Sports has earned a reputation for catering to the sharp sports bettor. Circa Sports built a nationwide reputation from its retail sportsbook in Las Vegas. Through that location, it operates some of the largest and most lucrative NFL handicapping contests. The Circa Sports Survivor offers a $30 million guaranteed prize pool. This year's competition already has more than 5,000 entries.
